Oasis500 Facilitates Investments In Jordanian Startups Dakwak & Masmoo3

Oasis500, the MENA region focused early stage and seed investment program, has announced two new investment deals for Jordanian startup companies Dakwak and Masmoo3 from its first Angel Investment event, and that the program has also signed a partnership agreement with Akhtaboot.

Dakwak, the startup behind a tool that enables websites to translate their content into over 60 languages, and which was previously reviewed here, received an investment from IV Holdings, resulting in a 300% increase in the Company’s post money valuation.
Dakwak was launched in July 2010 by Waheed Barghouthi, and was incubated by Oasis500 in March 2011. Waheed Barghouthi is currently CTO at the company, with fellow techie Zaid Amireh in the CEO role.

Arab Mobile Advertising Startup Noqoush Raises $3 Million

Noqoush Mobile Media Group, an Arab mobile advertising and mobile media monetization startup, announced concluding its first 3 million dollar investment round a couple of weeks ago.

In a press release, the company stated that a group of Arab and Foreign angel investors invested in its technical capabilities and future visions aiming at developing a full-fledged mobile advertising platform and mobile media monetization solutions targeting the massive mobile growth in the Middle East.

This first round of investment is aimed at providing the company with the required liquidity to enhance its capabilities, boost its growth, and attract the needed skills and competences to meet the increasing demand on its mobile media solutions.

First DemoCamp Amman To Be Held on May 10th 2011 At Zara Expo

This coming May will witness another addition to the startup event scene in the region, specifically in Amman, Jordan, with the holding of the first DemoCamp Amman event.

DemoCamp Amman will be held on May 10th 2011 at Zara Expo from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

As with other DemoCamp events around the region and the world, the goal of the event is to enable tech entrepreneurs, students, professionals and engineers to showcase and launch their new products in front of the tech community.

The event is open to startups and budding entrepreneurs both from Jordan and the region as a whole.

Edufina is a newly launched startup that aims to fill in an empty space providing comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date information about universities around the Arab world.

The portal targets both students and parents, and enables them to access very detailed university data and statistics, as well as use a set of comparison tools in order to compare between all options that match their needs and interests.

What’s great about Edufina is that it collects all this information that is freely available from universities but still cumbersome to get a hold of into one place, in a clear and structured way, through a simple and really nice interface, that enables users to run and filter searches on, run comparisons between different universities on, and come to their final decision on which university better suits them.

Tasree3 Expand Their Food Delivery Search Engine To Riyadh

Tasree3 is a simple and straightforward search engine that enables its users to search for and find the delivery numbers and menus for the different restaurants around town.

The design of the site is very simplistic, centered around a search box that enables users to search for the restaurant they want. There also is a Random button that randomly picks and suggests a restaurant for you, which should come in handy at times when you’re having a hard time picking what to have.

Suggestions are shown as you type your search query, and when you submit your search the results appear directly under the search box without loading another page, showing you the delivery number and providing a link for you to view the menu if you need to. The menu pops up as a layer on the page for you to browse through.

Startup Pitch Session At MENA ICT Forum Organized By Microsoft And Oasis 500

Microsoft Jordan and Oasis 500 will be organizing a Startup Pitch session during the MENA ICT Forum that is being held in Amman, Jordan on October 10th, 2010.

During the Startup Pitch Session, around seven of the top Jordanian startups will present their ideas to Corporate Vice President of Evangelism at Microsoft, Mr. Walid Abu-Hadba.

Abu-Hadba is responsible for Microsoft programs for Startups and Local Software Economy world-wide, in addition to Microsoft’s Cloud Strategy.

MENA ICT Forum 2010: 30 Tickets To Be Sponsored By Oasis 500

The MENA ICT Forum 2010 taking place in Amman, Jordan on October 10-11, 2010; which we previously announced here, is building up to be quite the event; but there’s been one little problem for entrepreneurs, and that’s the high attendance price, with tickets costing US$1000 for Int@j members and US$1500 for non-members.

Oasis 500, the new ICT seed capital fund that was launched from Jordan, as an initiative designed to help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into businesses, though they’d lend a hand in getting entrepreneurs to attend the forum.
