Qatar ICT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom) – May 24-26, 2011

ictQatar (Qatar’s Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology) will be hosting the first Qatar ICT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom), from May 24-26, 2011 at the Doha Exhibition Center, a move done by the government IT body to support the rapidly growing ICT market seen to expand to $3.7bn by 2013.

The conference is meant to be an opportunity for ICT leaders in Qatar to engage with global industry leaders and see first-hand the latest offerings and advances from major ICT enterprises.

A number of exhibitors have already confirmed their participation at QITCOM, including local companies such as Qatar Datamation Systems (QDS), World Connection, Total Soft, Atcom and Ictus Projects; as well as a number of multinationals such as IBM, Huawei, SAP, Microsoft, Alcatel-Lucent and Oracle.

There’s no arguing that we currently live in a mobile world, and since the launch of the iPhone a few years ago and all the developments that have followed in the smartphone space, contributing to the spread of such devices around the world, mobile apps have taken over as the hottest innovation area in tech.

Planet of the Apps Arabia 2011 is an event that will be taking place at Dubai’s The One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel from 18th to 20th of April 2011, aiming to cover this fast growing and exciting space. It is organized as a two day strategic conference, dedicated developer masterclass and a technology showcase exhibition.

The aim of the event is to bring together the mobile application ecosystem in one location, and get insights into what the spread of mobile applications means for business from some of the industry experts.

First DemoCamp Amman To Be Held on May 10th 2011 At Zara Expo

This coming May will witness another addition to the startup event scene in the region, specifically in Amman, Jordan, with the holding of the first DemoCamp Amman event.

DemoCamp Amman will be held on May 10th 2011 at Zara Expo from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

As with other DemoCamp events around the region and the world, the goal of the event is to enable tech entrepreneurs, students, professionals and engineers to showcase and launch their new products in front of the tech community.

The event is open to startups and budding entrepreneurs both from Jordan and the region as a whole.

TechWadi Marks Launch Of Entrepreneurship Initiative In Egypt

On October 25-26th, 2010; TechWadi, the Silicon Valley-based non-profit organization working to promote entrepreneurship in the Arab world, will be hosting two days of free events that are focused on developing the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem in Egypt and the MENA region.

On October 25th, at the Smart Village Convention Center in Cairo, Egypt; hundreds of entrepreneurs, executives and investors will join together at the Rising Tide Forum to build their networks, discover synergies, and learn from US and regional business leaders. [Agenda]

Panel leaders will address targeted topics of direct value to entrepreneurs and investors alike: venture capital and angel financing best practices; challenges and opportunities in Egypt; the role of mentors, incubators, and entrepreneurship education; mobile and Facebook applications; enterprise software; and a host of proven strategies ready to be transplanted into the MENA region.

Dubai Internet City To Host Next DemoCamp Dubai On Nov. 24th

Dubai Internet City just announced that it is preparing to host another edition of DemoCamp Dubai, the event enabling tech entrepreneurs, students, professionals and engineers to showcase and launch their new products in front of the tech community, and obtain valuable feedback from a like-minded audience comprising venture capitalists and angel investors.

This next edition of DemoCamp Dubai will be held on November 24th, from 6.30pm – 9.00pm, at Dubai Internet City; probably at the Knowledge Village Auditorium as usual. It is planned to include six demos from entrepreneurs.

Applicants will be screened by a panel of industry experts, including the organisers and business partners of DIC. Shortlisted applicants will be required to demonstrate their product and highlight its market opportunity, stage of corporate development, and identify the competitors. Demonstrations need to convey working software, hardware, network services and other features.

GoSolo Entrepreneurial Workshop: Raising Capital for Your Startup

Tandem, the Dubai-based business advisory company, will be hosting a 5th installment of GoSolo at The Shelter in Dubai, today Wednesday October 13th, 2010 at 7PM.

GoSolo is a series of entrepreneurial workshops organized by tandem and that aim to help and guide aspiring entrepreneurs through the different challenges of launching a startup and give them answers to all their various questions.

This month’s session, titled ‘Raising Capital for Your Startup‘, will include a discussion led by the founders of tandem, Rabih Brair and Amir Farha on the industry, and insights on what investors are looking for in today’s market. The topics include the regional investment landscape, the selection criteria that investors look at and a Q&A session with one of the founders of Duplays.

Dubai’s yearly GITEX Technology Week is just around the corner, taking place from October 17th to 21st in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Plans for this year’s event are even bigger than previous years, and include a new really interesting track titled ‘GITEX Mobile Apps & Content World‘, which is focused on the sector of mobile applications and content, and aims to provide a high profile, dynamic framework for the mobile applications and entertainment market.

With a market worth an estimated US$30 billion, opportunities are immense, and there’s so much going on in this space as mobile operators and manufacturers scramble to open up their own apps stores as popular demand for apps to buy and download increases.

US-Lebanon ICT Forum And ArabNet Beirut Startup Workshop

The American Embassy in Lebanon and the American-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce are hosting the first annual US-Lebanon ICT Forum on Oct 14-15 at BIEL Center in Beirut, Lebanon.

The event is also being supported by the Union of Arab ICT Associations (IJMA3) and the National U.S. Arab Chamber of Commerce.

The forum will showcase 60 companies active in the ICT sector and their latest products, and will feature a series of seminars about trends in the technology and communications sector. The goal is to help Lebanese and American businesses capitalize on the growing bilateral commercial relations.

As part of the forum, ArabNet is organizing a free entrepreneurship workshop on October 14th from 6pm to 8pm, titled ‘Speed Up Your Startup‘.

Fourth Edition Of Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Competition Launched In Jordan
