As promised when they first launched the mobile version of their mapping service, Ayna.com has gone on and launched a satellite imagery feature for this mobile version, allowing users to see a high-resolution aerial snapshot of the location they are looking for.

Users of the service can now enter any address in the Middle East on Ayna maps, and click on the “Satellite” link to locate and zoom into the wanted area till having the closest image.

The satellite imagery service on the mobile is empowered by DigitalGlobe technology and updated for 2008, allowing users to view the entire world and zoom into 26 Middle East and North African cities, with streets, malls, points of interest, geographic information, buildings and more, directly from their mobile phones.

The satellite map has the same features existing on the normal map: finding points of interest, getting directions, saving favorites, sharing with friends …etc.

The satellite imagery feature should also be available on the web version of Ayna maps soon.

  2. This is a good move but more is required. As far as maps go, I find Ayna beats the likes of Google Maps and Microsoft (erm… Bing) maps for some of the more obscure Arabic cities (Damascus). But when it comes to Doha or Dubai then it's a bit behind.

    While having it in the palm of your hand is a strong move… I think it needs to be more ambitious… and help develop an ecosystem around the Arabic world's maps.

    Anyone know if Ayna maps has an API or is planning to launch one? I'd love to add it to a project I'm working on.

    Sorry to come with so many questions, but this is an interesting product for local advertising. So :

    – Do you have any idea about the current number of users of this App?
    – What about Countries like Tunisia or Algeria ? Google Map is very weak there….
    – Is it available for Blackberry or iPhone?
    – Last but basic: Where can I download it?

    This application is not yet developed for I Phone and Blackberry
    Ayna maps is very detailed for Tunisia and Algeria you may check the street level details which no one else can provide
